HYROX training in Stanford
Stanford's campus rec centers are excellent, but none are set up for HYROX — the sleds, wall balls, and run-station format the race demands. For that, the nearest option is APX Velocity, minutes from campus in Menlo Park. We coach the exact race format, scaled from first-timer to elite, and your first class is free.

Getting to APX from Stanford
About a 12 to 20 minute drive from campus: Campus Drive or Sand Hill Road out to El Camino, then east on Willow Road under US-101 to O'Brien Drive in east Menlo Park.
Plenty of Stanford athletes already build their engine at the Stanford Dish, Campus Drive's tree-lined loop and Palm Drive and the Arboretum. APX Velocity is where they add the strength, stations, and pacing that turn those miles into a HYROX result.
The Stanford home for hybrid athletes.
From the Arrillaga rec center to the Dish, Stanford has world-class training grounds — but no dedicated HYROX facility. Students, grad students, staff, and med-center athletes who want to race the format train it off-campus at APX, a short drive away.
APX Velocity is a 5.0-star, DEKA-affiliate gym where coaches line up at HYROX, DEKA, and Spartan events themselves. You train the exact race format on the real equipment, scaled to your level, in a room that pushes you. Nerd Nation runs deep on endurance culture — there's even an active Stanford Triathlon club — and APX is where that engine meets sled pushes and wall balls.

Is there a HYROX gym near Stanford?
Stanford's campus recreation centers, like Arrillaga, don't have a dedicated HYROX setup. The nearest HYROX gym is APX Velocity in Menlo Park, about a 12 to 20 minute drive from campus, where you train the full eight-station race format on real equipment. Your first class is free.
Can Stanford students and staff train HYROX at APX Velocity?
Yes. APX Velocity welcomes Stanford undergrads, grad students, postdocs, faculty, staff, and medical center athletes. There are no qualifying times — if you can run a comfortable 5km, coaches scale every station to you, from complete beginner to competitive racer.
How do I get from Stanford to APX Velocity?
From central campus, take Campus Drive or Sand Hill Road to El Camino Real, then head east on Willow Road under US-101 to O'Brien Drive in east Menlo Park — roughly 5 to 7 miles and 12 to 20 minutes depending on traffic at the Willow/101 interchange.
What are the eight HYROX stations, in order?
In order, the eight HYROX stations are: SkiErg (1,000 m), sled push (50 m), sled pull (50 m), burpee broad jumps (80 m), row (1,000 m), farmers carry (200 m), sandbag lunges (100 m), and wall balls (100 reps). Each station follows a 1 km run, and the order never changes from race to race. APX Velocity trains all eight on the real equipment.
